The Buffet R13 is our most popular professional model clarinet. It is the standard choice for many professional players. This is the standard version pitched in Bb. It is also available pitched in A.
Developed under the guidance of Robert Carree, the R13 clarinet has been the choice of professionals since 1955, and nothing has changed about it since.
The R13 is suitable for all musicians, symphony or chamber music, soloists, teachers, students and even those in marching bands. There is a greenline version also available which is good for outdoor playing.
The R13 has a rich and focused sound, with power in all registers.
The wood for the R13 is carefully chosen for its acoustic and aesthetic qualities and therefore is unstained.
The R13 now comes without a mouthpiece, but has an upgraded ligature made by HB in France.
The Buffet R13 and RC clarinets are very similar. The R13 was designed for the American market and the RC for the European market. Previously, the R13 has been more popular in the UK, but it is becoming more of a 50/50 split recently.
The R13 has a very slightly darker sound to it and the RC has a little more flexibility. The bore on the R13 is more cylindrical and the RC is more tapered at the lower end, the speaker pipe is also higher up. The keywork is practically the same between the two models.
We find the instruments very similar, it will come down to personal preference with which one you choose. We recommend you visit one of our stores to try different the models if you are unsure.

Pianos - Delivery is FREE within Great Britain for all pianos. The price you see is the price you pay. We use a courier service and aim to have most things delivered within 3 working days.
Doorstep Drop-off only. Pianos are delivered flatpack, usually on a pallet, for self assembly. Please be aware that if you choose our courier service for larger items such as digital pianos, the courier is not contracted to carry items up any steps or stairs. If there are stairs leading to the front door of the delivery address, or you live in an apartment which is not on pavement level, it is your responsibility to arrange for transportation from the pavement level to the delivery address. Please be aware that the box can weigh 60Kg to 120Kg. We recommend that that you have help to move the box to the room of your choice from two or three able-bodied persons. In this instance, the delivery driver may, at their own discretion assist you in carrying the parcels into the delivery address, but they are not contracted nor obliged to do so.
Piano deliveries in Sussex - Subject to availability, we are often able to offer a free, pre-arranged timed delivery and setup service within 50 miles of our shops. With this option pianos are delivered and assembled in your home and the piano is left ready to play.
