The standard Bb clarinet is the still the most common of the clarinet range used in all genres of music. Orchestral works however are divided between the Bb and A therefore an A clarinet, pitched a semi tone lower, is usually also necessary for the orchestral player. The Eb is pitched higher than the Bb and is a shorter instrument. The bass clarinet is pitched an octave lower than the standard Bb clarinet.
