The standard Bb clarinet is the still the most common of the clarinet range used in all genres of music. Orchestral works however are divided between the Bb and A, therefore an A clarinet, pitched a semi tone lower, is usually also necessary for the orchestral player. The Eb is pitched higher than the Bb and is a shorter instrument. The bass clarinet is pitched an octave lower than the standard Bb clarinet.
